Located a little more than a well struck driver away from the Canadian border Fort Kent Golf Club is New England’s northern most golf course.
The picturesque nine hole layout can be found in the town of Fort Kent, Maine with a population of 4,067. The course offers amazing views of the northern Maine landscape. At times throughout their round players can catch a glimpse of the St. John River which serves as a border between the U.S. and New Brunswick, Canada.
Fort Kent GC is a par-36 track that plays at 3,195 yards from the tips.
In 2024 Fort Kent GC had a relatively early opening with the first tee shot being struck on April 26. However, in 2021 the course opened on April 15 forcing manager Mike Voisine to quickly transfer from ski season to golf season.
“We are really three weeks ahead of last year and probably two weeks ahead of most other years,” Mike Voisine told News 8 WAGM at the time. “What is nice about this year is it’s dry dry everywhere so we are putting carts out on the course. All the greens are in spectacular shape and we have been fortunate.”
In the same report then 87-yeard-old Phil Pelletier, Sr. told News 8 WAGM that April 15 was the earliest opening he could remember. The previous earliest had been April 17.
