(May 17, 2024) - Beau Welling Design along with senior design associate Chase Webb will lead the project to renovate Stowe Country Club.
According to the Stowe CC website, the footprint of the course will largely remain the same however, "the improvements will elevate all facets of the course—from new and improved tees to new and differently shaped green complexes. The goal of the redesign is to create a more consistent and playable course, while also offering more challenges for advanced players."
As part of the project, the putting surface will be switched to bentgrass while the rough will combine Kentucky bluegrass and fescue. The Beau Welling Design team will also remove trees throughout the course to enhance the views of the Vermont landscape.
The project, which began in early May of 2024, will take two years with the front nine work scheduled for 2024 and the back nine for 2025.
“It’s an exciting time for our membership,” Stowe CC general manager Michael Harger, told Golf Course Architecture. “So many of us have a vested interest in this historic course, and it’s been a thrilling process to lay the groundwork for the next generation of golf enthusiasts in the Stowe community.”
Stowe CC opened in 1950 and is currently a par 71 layout that plays at 6,220 yards.
